A downloadable game for Windows

Description

Otherworld is a short horror project I worked on for my Prototyping class at University. It's been gathering dust on my hard drive since Halloween 2018, so I figured I should post it.

A short and spooky experience for the month of October! πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ

Tried this yesterday and it was quite unpleasant... Well done :D
Loved the setting and the feel of the game - the way the shadows move (very un-natural) confused me at first but it really does add a lot to the games charm and style.. It's pretty unsettling <.<

Thanks for playing it! Yes, the flashlight caused some strange shadows, I was never quite able to fix it. πŸ€

feel free to watch my 3 horror games in 1 video including this game

(1 edit)

you should at least put the links of the games you play in the description of your videos / mention the developers   / if you are making content to get viewers and subscribers that is the least you can do for playing some ones games kind of a 1 sided relationship lol

I thought this game was really cool! Great work on it!

Thanks for checking it out! πŸ€

This is a really nice demo.I would say this is my favorite itch.io game ive played on my channel.i had the chill and my hands were kinda sweaty lol.

Thank you and keep doing your thing

I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

nice demo! can't wait for the full game(if there is one)

Thanks for playing! πŸ‘»

(+1)(-1)

I really enjoyed this one, as I was playing I thought this was a demo, but it works as a short game too.  I would love to see this style and these mechanics brought into a larger scale game though.  Really fun, great job, this is the first game in the video

Eyy, thanks for playing the game!

(+1)

well it was OK great back story and great game play but it was to short

(+1)(-1)

got a little too creepy for me but mostly confusing at the end but still a cool game :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the prototype!

(+1)

Had so much fun with this game, PLEASE MAKE A SEQUEL!

MAYBE I WILL πŸ‘»

πŸŽ€ A SPOOKY, SCARY HOSPITAL | Otherworld Full Gameplay

The game did a nice job building an atmosphere but didn't deliver. It also mentioned a consequence for using your otherworld vision, but it didn't present itself to me. The background noises helped build the game world and the room where you have to type in the code was awesome, when you switched visions and saw everything and it was like WHAT THE FUCK! That was cool. But half the game is grabbing a flashlight, then a key, typing in a code. Then the other half is find three generator parts (Like we have seen an absurd amount of times) and then you get into an elevator and it's over. I noticed the play button did say 'prototype' so maybe the creator is planning on finishing the game and if he does, I will be interested. Also big fan of your channel (I totally found this by coincidence.)

(+1)

Yeah, I agree. The elevator part isn't that inspired, it was something I did quickly to wrap up the game so I could focus on other assignments. It'd be nice to get to flesh out the experience more... πŸ’€

aye I got a reply from a famous guy

Well I agree with you man :) Thanks btw I'm glad you enjoy my videos. Dev has the right mindset I think but lacking the means to realize it. Change the packaging and develop the idea, you got yourself a decent indie horror game. The most of the game is still in the dev's mind I feel.

Spoopy! πŸ‘»πŸ‘»

(+1)

well... I think It can be a very good horror game, I love the atmosphere of the game, and the gameplay is very intresting, you can switch between  2 world, it's an idea you can growth with effiency

I'm glad you think the premise has promise!

(+1)

Played this as the 2nd of a 3 random horror games video, and I loved the mechanic and how creepy it turned out to be. The openness of the story and possibility of a threat left me wanting more to it.

Thanks for playing, I hope to bring more spoops in the future! πŸ’€

(+1)

absolutely loved it,

would love to see more..

(+1)

definitely a good game, you can see by the photos lol.

(+1)

Love the concept behind this game. I wish we had a little more to play but being a class project I totally get it. I really think you have a good idea here and I hope you plan on working on it more, instead of letting it gather more dust ;)

Your game is the 2nd game in the video starting at 7:14!

πŸ‘» Thanks for the kind words!

(+1)

Thanks for the cool game!

Not bad for a prototype. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and I look forward to the full release. I played the demo on my channel, and would be happy to do it again upon full release.

Thanks for playing! I initially had no plans to expand on it, but since it's gotten such a warm reception, I might have to :)

(+1)

I can’t believe you had this just collecting dust since 2018. It’s a fresh experience and I love it!

(+1)(-1)

I wanted to play more.  I think 4 more puzzles would have left me satisfied haha

Thanks for checking it out! I hope to be able to expand on it one day :)

(+1)

Played your game in a video, I really loved this concept and can see so much potential for it which I talk about in the video. Hope you enjoy

Yours was the first game I played

You had some great ideas for the game! I'll keep them in mind!

(+1)(-1)

Some good ideas but obviously as a prototype it was a little limited.

(1 edit)

Thanks for checking it out, I hope to be able to expand on the ideas!

(+1)(-1)

(+1)

Haha, it was great to see your reactions! Thanks for playing!

(+1)(-1)

This is wonderful! Really looking forward to more. The otherworld is so well done. Keep up the frightening haunts!

Here is my lets play:

I'm glad it resonated with you!

(+1)(-1)

You did a stellar job bro! One small bug I found is if you call the elevator and back out into the previous room it won't lent you call the elevator again.

Thanks for checking it out,  and thanks for letting me know about that bug! If I ever update the demo I'll be sure to address it.

(+1)

I really love the concept and want to see more! Lovely story and I loved the actual Otherworld! This is the first game in the video I made for 3 random horror games!

Thanks for checking it out!

(+1)

You have an awesome game here.

Thanks man, I appreciate it! :)

(+1)(-1)

I played Otherworld as part of my 3 Halloween games in 1 video series.

I really enjoyed it! Hope to see more from this concept too!

Otherworld is the 1st game in the video! :)

(+1)(-1)

Very cool. I loved the atmosphere and the unique game mechanic worked really well. I am a little confused on something though. Is the character you play new and not in the records you find, or are you Laura?

I was really dumb getting through this. Got stumped on the code because I needed to think globally (trying to be vague and not give spoilers here).

(+2)

Thanks for playing it, Rob! To answer your question, I did not intend for the player to be Laura, I wanted Laura to haunt you as an antagonist. But I began to like the idea of Laura also being yourself, like a twisted Otherworldly version, so I left it a bit ambiguous. And as for the keycode, I feel I should've made it work as day-month and month-day, I neglected the American audience, whoops!

(+1)

You're welcome!

Ah I see. The identity thing makes sense then. My best guess had become you are her but had blocked it. Almost a split personality thing.

I don't think you need to change the code really. Unless of course lots of people have the problem. I feel like I should have been able to figure it out though. :)

(1 edit) (+1)(-1)

One of the most atmospheric game I have played with such a well made mechanic! I really hope to see more of this game in the future. If you would all like me to panic over such amazing atmosphere, you can watch the video here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Njz5fSGbOaU&feature=youtu.be

I'm glad the spooks got to you. Thanks for playing!

(+1)(-1)

I walked into the Otherworld and it was a blast!

That's for sharing this with us dev. I'm looking forward to your next game :)

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

Oh the shivers. They came and surrounded me for a time or two. Good fun! Glad you ripped this from your hard drive!

(+1)

Hehe, I have to admit I chuckled like a mad magician during some parts. Glad you appreciated the atmosphere! πŸ’€

(+1)(-1)
